There were so many grateful hearts regarding receiving a coat at the event. We had kiddos refusing to take off their new coats throughout the event, many littles saying thank you to all the volunteers and staff over and over with huge smiles on their faces and many relieved parents that expressed their gratitude. As we have been out and about in our military community this week we have seen the coats all over the instillation. The kids seem to love them! It really means a lot to see that they are still so excited about their new coat and see that our event has left a positive impact our military families. Thank you Subaru for caring about our military community here at Fort Wainwright, Alaska!

At Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks, supporting our community is at the heart of everything we do. This week, we had the privilege of delivering emotional support items to the children receiving care at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. From cozy and cuddly stuffed friends to comforting activity kits, these items were thoughtfully selected to bring a little extra warmth and reassurance to young patients during what can be a difficult time. It’s our way of letting these brave kids—and their families—know that they are not alone and that the Fairbanks community stands with them. We’re incredibly grateful to the caregivers and staff at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for their dedication, and we’re honored to support their work in any way we can. At Kendall, we believe kindness drives us all forward, and small gestures can make a BIG IMPACT!

Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks has continued its generous support to the pediatrics department at the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. This year at Easter, Kendall Subaru employees helped to stuff Easter baskets for patients that were in the hospital over Easter. Fun items to keep kids busy like coloring books, mini basketball hoops, play dough, fun glasses with bunny ears and more. Then part of the Kendall Subaru team met up with the Easter Bunny himself and delivered the baskets to the hospital and pediatric clinic. Everyone had a hopping good time!

Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks continues to foster the Auto Shop Program with North Pole High School. This fall this included donating several engines to the program as well as tools. Josh Figg, Service Manager at Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks, took a few technicians and other service team members with him when they pulled up with an enclosed trailer full of donations for the school’s program. Travis Cortez, North Pole’s Auto Shop Teacher, has been a huge part of keeping high school auto programs in place since he took over the program. He has continued to grow the interest of students and teach them not just the basics but moving them into more advanced maintenance skills and developing a LOVE of learning amongst the students. Mr. Cortez recently brought about 15 students to Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks for a field trip. They toured the dealership, spent time watching the movement in the service department and shop, and got to speak with technicians.

Golden Retriever Rescue of Fairbanks partner with Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks along with John Guintu and Jaclyn Browning. We held a meet and greet on the 20th of October at their location in Fairbanks (1001 Cadillac Ct, Fairbanks, AK 99701). This event helped us reach more of our population than our previous meet and greets that we were doing on our own. We also saw an increase in volunteers for this event. We do things a little differently when it comes to adopting a dog from us. They have to go on trial with a family to make sure it is a good fit before they can be adopted. With that being said we still adopted out 9 dogs in the month of October. The partnership with Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks helped us find homes for some of longer-term dogs that were with us a while. We posted on our Facebook that because of this partnership we were able to lower adoption costs for the month of October, thus helping find homes for dogs we had in our care for a few months. A few of our adoptions happened before the event, but they were dogs that we were going to take to the event if no one had applied for them. After our event people were asking us when the next one would be and that they enjoyed being able to see the dogs and spend time with them. We have a few adoption stories to share. One is about 7 year old Carly. She was given to us when her owner could no longer take care of her. Being and older she didn't get many applications for adoption. Carly is a sweet Golden Retriever, she found her forever home where now she can live out retirement on the couch with her owners. Bjorn is a 5-year-old lab Doberman mix. He was given to us when his owner left the state and left him to wonder around down in Denali. The neighbor across the street took him in, but since they had his brother, it was too much for them to take care of him. Bjorn was getting picked on by the other dog in the home and it was starting to turn nasty. He had some scars on him when we received him. We work with him for a while and got him comfortable. He ended up getting his Canine Good Citizen certification while in our care. He is now a service dog for an elder woman who needed a brace dog. A lot of people looked away from him because of how he looked, but really, he is just a sweetheart. Faith 1 year old Golden Retriever. Faith was at the event and meet so many people who wanted to take her home. Faith was found on the in Fairbanks stuck in someone's yard. The lady looked for her owner and found out they didn't want her anymore. So, she took her to the shelter and the shelter reached out to us and we took her in. While in her foster home, we had a volunteer who recently lost their golden, come and take Faith for walks. She would come and walk the dogs we have, just to fill the emptiness of not having a dog at home. She was also a volunteer that night at the adoption event. She had told us she wasn't looking for a dog, but here was Faith and it turned into true love. So not only did Faith find her forever home that night, Faith's new parents also got to love again.

Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks partnered with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and our local hospital, J. Michael Carroll Cancer Center, to give warm blankets and encouraging messages of hope written by our employees and our customers to support patients facing cancer. Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks loves to care, and we show it by providing warmth, love, and relief when and where they’re needed most. General Manager, Jaclyn Browning, said, "Every event and partnership that we do with Subaru is wonderful, but I think this one pulls on the heart strings a little more. Most people have been affected by cancer, whether it was their own journey, a family member or a close friend. It affects all of us, our families and has affected our Kendall family. Meeting the staff, the doctors and nurses is a highlight, knowing we can support them and provide them with something to pass on to patients. They have a tough job and our community is so blessed to have such an amazing group of people supporting them and helping them through treatment."

Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks has partnered with local school auto shop programs for many years, giving students tours of facilities and shops as well as some hands on learning during their field trips. Kendall's Service Manager, Josh Figg, and Subaru District Parts & Service Manager, Tim Vandehey, recently visited North Pole High School to deliver some donations. Travis Cortez, Auto Shop Teacher at North Pole High School, said "recent donations of engines and CVT transmissions have created flexibility and eases the demand of the limited number of fleet vehicle the program has that students can work on. The best part is that the donations are our most up to date components that make the courses more life like in situation. Plus, the Subaru boxer engine stands out as a student favorite in this day and age." Other recent donations included battery testers and a brake lathe. Travis added, "I am also excited to be set up with the Subaru training program. As a former technician, I both understand and appreciate top-notch industry training as it is the best training available." Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks is proud to support the local auto shop programs and help these students get excited about the career path. Kendall is proud to be an employer of many local auto shop program graduates both at the high school level and from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks proudly partnered with Golden Retriever Rescue of Fairbanks (GRRF) through October for the annual Subaru Loves Pets campaign. In addition to donating $100 to GRRF for every pet adopted in October, Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks also hosted a pet adoption event at the dealership to help find loving homes for available dogs. The adoption event was a huge success! Attendees were able to meet available dogs, learn about the rescue, and leave with some Subaru branded dog toys. Golden Retriever Rescue of Fairbanks has a three-fold mission: 1. They rescue unwanted and abandoned dogs and place into loving homes. 2. They promote and provide education about dogs, dog care, and obedience/behavior. 3. They promote spaying and neutering in order to address the pet overpopulation problem. During the event, GRRF brought 8 dogs into the Subaru showroom from a barely 1-year-old Golden Retriever puppy named Faith, all the way up to a 13-year-old named Sam. We had retriever mixes, lab mixes, even a Malamute/Retriever mix. There was so much puppy love going around, you couldn’t help but smile. Kendall and GRRF staff was also joined by a large group of volunteers, many of whom are foster parents or have adopted from GRRF in the past!

There are so many ways we can help support our military families through the ASYMCA. Every year, Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks is excited to kick off the new school year with the Subaru Loves Learning program. During the month of August, Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks holds a school supply donation drive, encouraging employees, customers, and community members to donate any amount of supplies they can to help the students, staff and families of Hunter Elementary School. Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks has partnered with Hunter Elementary for many years and has created quite a bond with them. Throughout the year, celebrating Teacher and Staff Appreciation days by supplying early morning and mid-day snacks to keep the staff energized to teach the next generation. Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks General Manager, Jaclyn Browning, not only wants these students to know that they are loved and supported, but the staff and school as a whole. “Teachers are amazing humans. The number of kids and chaos they deal with every day and the fact that they are able to keep our children engaged and learning, it’s amazing! These humans have hearts of gold and a passion to teach and help us raise the next generation. We hope that this program and the support we try to show throughout the year makes them feel valued, appreciated, and know that we don’t expect them to do this on their own.” Principal Jane Bedford said “A huge thank you to Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks for the classroom donations. We truly appreciate the Subaru Loves Learning donation program and our students benefit greatly through the ability of our teachers to be able to purchase social emotional learning activities and social emotional learning items that helps support students that are not available through general education funds. Thank you so much for your time, your efforts and your never-ending contributions to Fairbanks. 4th Grade Teacher, Charali Wetherbee added, “This funding has helped supplement my students learning so much! Art is something that my students look forward to and is a majorly underfunded crucial piece of education. This funding goes so far to making my classroom a welcoming place that students look forward to coming to. Many of my students have said that on days when they know art is going to happen, they make sure to come to school so they can participate. In a community where attendance is at an all time low, anything that I am able to do to improve that number is a huge deal.”

Subaru is dedicated to supporting those who need it most and believe our communities grow stronger when everyone is cared for. For this year's Subaru Loves to Help campaign, Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks donated eight boxes full of socks to local soup kitchen, Bread Line. Bread Line is a anti-hunger organization and will be able to distribute the donated socks to individuals in need.
John G.
Dear Subaru, Thank you for your thoughtful donation & for being an important part in the Bread Line’s mission of “feeding people and affirming lives” in our community. The Zulu saying “Izandla ziyagezana” means hands wash each other. This is a fitting description of how we feel about your contribution; supported! Your donations help ensure that all of the Bread Line’s critical anti-hunger programs remain free to the people who need us. In April, our weekday soup kitchen served 1,981 hot meals & 2,283 sack lunches. That is a total of 4,264 free meals served to Fairbanks neighbors in need. April also marked the sixth record-breaking month in a row at the Stone Soup Café as we continue serving more meals than we ever have in the Bread Line’s 39-year history. We could not meet this extraordinary level of service without you. Donating to these anti-hunger programs shows your commitment to community. It is a powerful demonstration of love to give unconditionally. As we welcome the warmer weather of spring, let us continue deepening our work of building a better tomorrow together. Thank you. “Piurraarput ilihautaaqpait.” We become stronger when we work together (Inuipiaq saying). In all gratitude, Hannah C. Hill Bread Line Inc. Executive Director

Through our partnership with Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks, we hosted an adoption event on October 21st to highlight adoptions through the month of October. We brought four pets to Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks, and by the end of the event, Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Control, The Fairbanks Shelter Fund and Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks helped two pets find their perfect, loving home. Through the month of October, 85 cats and dogs were able to find their perfect homes with the support of this partnership. Thanks to John Guintu and Jaclyn Browning from Kendall Auto Alaska, we were able to bring dogs and guinea pigs to meet the Fairbanks community. One of our special underdogs who were adopted this month was Suki! Suki was surrendered to the shelter because her elderly owner was no longer able to care for her. She is a senior Shih Tzu mix that had an extensive medical workup courtesy of The Shelter Fund! She needed a dental with several extractions, some small masses removed, and she also has heart disease that required diagnostics and lifelong medication. Suki has a heart of gold and is the most cheerful little dog we’ve ever met! She was adopted by a loving family in October and we are so happy she wagged her way into her perfect home.

On Friday, July 1, Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks had the unique opportunity of delivering 80 blankets to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital (FMH), in partnership with the LLS Pacific Northwest Region. The Subaru Team also brought handwritten cards for patients from employees and customers! From the minute the Subaru and FMH teams met to the end of the visit, smiles were held by all! Everyone was eager to create a great experience and learn more about how Fairbanks Memorial Hospital is moving the needle forward in the cancer space. Dr. Essam Shihadeh, Radiation Oncologist at FMH joined as well, which was very exciting for the Subaru Team. Since its inception, Fairbanks Memorial Hospital has been a thought-leader in their respective field, and Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks and the LLS Pacific Northwest Region are grateful for the opportunity to support an incredible patient-focused institution.

For the past two years, during our greatest time of need, the Bread Line has had the good fortune of partnering with Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks in their Subaru Share the Love program. This year, Kendall Subaru raised $7,000 for the Bread Line! The Bread Line is an anti-hunger organization in Fairbanks that runs several programs to "feed people & affirm lives" of our most vulnerable neighbors. This includes a weekday soup kitchen, culinary job training program, a community garden & more. At the Bread Line's soup kitchen, the Stone Soup Cafe, one day's worth of food (fruit oatmeal & coffee, homemade soup, cold sack lunch & chef-prepared hot entree) costs around $7. Through this generous support from Kendall Subaru, the Bread Line will be able to feed 1,000 people a good meal in a safe place. Thank you.

Whenever people talk about cancer, they always use the same word. Someday. Someday there will be a cure. Someday we won’t lose the people we love. But when is someday? The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society believes that someday can be today. Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks is excited to partner and raise awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society who is working to cure blood cancers. During the month of June, Kendall Subaru customers and employees filled out cards with positive messages for cancer patients. The cards along with blankets will be delivered to local cancer patients and hospitals in Fairbanks. Visit http://www.lls.org/ to learn more about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and ways you can be involved.

Monarch butterflies are the most beautiful of all butterflies and are considered the “king” of all butterflies. Unfortunately, the monarch populations have declined by about 80% over the last decade, primarily because of milkweed plants. Other contributing factors include the loss of wildflower habitats in the US, climate change, parasite disease and insecticide use. Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks loves giving back to our community, and part of that means being responsible about how we dispose of our outdated electronics. The month of April, we hosted an e-waste recycling campaign and encouraged our customers to join us in a little spring cleaning. Our E-waste drop off bins quickly filled and we were so thrilled with the amount of items we had brought in to be responsibly recycled. Thank you to all of our customers who participated in this campaign. Working together, we can start something great!

Kendall Subaru of Fairbanks encourages community members to stay active during the long, cold winter by sponsoring the Fairbanks Nordic Ski Association. We set up a tent at the finish line of the Town-Race series event where spectators can come get a cup of hot coco and competitors can grab some Gatorade and a healthy snack. We also make a donation of the cause to help pay for the maintenance of trails throughout the city.

This holiday season our dealership partnered with the Salvation Army to organize an event called "12 Days of Caring." With this program we gave back to families throughout our community who needed some extra help. This was a great opportunity for us to give back to the community and spread the holiday spirit.
